Three tyres, one name. When customers ask us for “P Zeros”, most do not realise Pirelli sells three quite different tyres under that badge in Dubai. Fit the wrong one and you either pay for grip you will never use, or lose the feel your car was built around.
Here is the simple version of what each one is, and who it is for.
P Zero (PZ4): the current flagship
This is the P Zero most people mean. The PZ4 is the fourth generation of the tyre, and it is what Pirelli fits at the factory on new Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Porsches, AMGs and M cars.
It has an asymmetric tread with a stiff outer shoulder for cornering and a softer inner section for wet grip. The compound is tuned for steering response and short braking distances on hot tarmac, which is exactly what Dubai highways ask for.
There are two versions. The Sports Car version is sharper and firmer. The Luxury version is quieter and a little more comfortable, often with PNCS foam inside to cut cabin noise. Both carry manufacturer OE markings on many sizes, so check your sidewall for an N, MO, star or F code before ordering.
Choose the PZ4 if you drive a modern performance or luxury car and want the tyre it was designed with. It is the safest answer for most supercar tyre enquiries we get.
P Zero Rosso: the older generation
The Rosso is the P Zero from the early 2000s. Pirelli still makes it, mainly because a lot of cars were homologated on it and owners want the original fitment. You will see it on older Ferraris, Maseratis, Audis and some Jaguars from that era.
It is a good tyre, but it is a 20-year-old design. Wet grip, noise and wear are all a step behind the PZ4. The compound was developed for the road surfaces and speeds of its time.
The reason to choose it is simple: your car was built with it and you want to keep it original, or the PZ4 is not available in your exact size. If your car is a 2015 or newer model, there is almost no reason to pick a Rosso over a PZ4. If someone offers you a Rosso at a discount for a modern car, ask why.
P Zero E: the modern efficient one
The P Zero E arrived in 2023 and is the newest tyre of the three. It was built for a different job. Instead of maximum grip, it targets low rolling resistance, low noise and long life while still behaving like a performance tyre.
It is made with a high share of bio-based and recycled materials, and it comes with Pirelli’s Elect technology as standard, which means it is designed to handle the weight and instant torque of electric and hybrid cars. It also carries RunForward, which lets you keep driving a short distance after a puncture.
Choose the P Zero E if you drive an EV, a plug-in hybrid, or a modern sedan where range, quietness and tyre life matter more than the last few percent of cornering grip. Think Tesla Model 3 and Y, BMW i4, Mercedes EQ models, Polestar, and newer petrol executive cars. It is the one we recommend most for EV tyres enquiries.
The one-line decision
Modern sports, luxury or performance car: PZ4.
Older car that came on it, or you want factory originality: Rosso.
EV, hybrid or efficient daily driver: P Zero E.
Three things Dubai drivers get wrong
Buying the PZ4 for a heavy EV. It will fit and it will grip, but it will wear fast under EV torque and weight. The P Zero E exists for exactly this.
Buying the Rosso because it is cheaper. On a modern car you give up wet grip and noise for a small saving. In a country where it rains twice a year and floods when it does, that is the wrong place to save.
Skipping alignment after fitting. All three are low-profile tyres with soft shoulders. A car that is slightly out of alignment will chew the inside edge of a new P Zero within a few thousand kilometres. Have 3D wheel alignment done at the same visit.
Not sure which one your car needs?
Look at the sidewall of your current tyre. If it says P ZERO with a small PZ4 marking, you are on the current generation. If it says P ZERO ROSSO, you are on the older one. If it says P ZERO E, you already have the efficient version.
